Tips for solving Compatibility Issues with third-party software
• System 7.5.3 compatibility
Now Utilities 5.0.2 and better is compatible with system 7.5.3. We have seen random crashing when using the hierarchical menus. This can be solved by going into the system folder; control panels; general controls and turning off Menu Blinking.
• Paperport scanner
The Paperport extension, PaperPort, and PaperPort Writer must load after the Now Menus control panel, or the Now Menus icon will be invisible. Use Now Startup Manager to control the load order by dragging one of these items up or down; see your user manual for further details. • Global Village modems
The Global Village toolbox must load before the Now QuickFiler extension, or the Now QuickFiler menu icon will be replaced by a generic "QF" text title. Use Now Startup Manager to control the load order by dragging one of these items up or down; see the Now Utilities User Guide for further details. • WordPerfect
WordPerfect modifies the open and save dialog boxes causing the expanded dialog box in Super Boomerang to look odd. This is a cosmetic error but can be addressed by excluding WordPerfect from SuperBoomerang.. Now Menus will cause the Fonts menu in the WordPerfect 'Print Envelope' dialog box not to appear. To address this you can exclude Now Menus from modifying WordPerfect. See the Now Utilities User Guide for further details.
• Adobe Illustrator
We have seen Adobe Illustrator crash on some Macintoshes with Now Menus running. If you are experiencing this problem try excluding Now Menus from modifying Adobe Illustrator. See the Now Utilities User Guide for further details.
• Microsoft Word 6.0
If you are running system 7.5.3 you need to turn off the Microsoft patch 'Office 4.2.x Update for PowerMac' If you are running any other system make sure that you have the 1.0 to 1.0.1 update. You can find this on Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/msoffice.
• Removable Media Drives
On some systems we have seen problems unmounting removable media like Zip disks. Try opening the Now QuickFiler control panel and turn on Transparent Compression. You do not need to specify a drive to compress but the option does need to be turned on. Then turn off change icons of compressed items. See the Now Utilities User Guide for further details.
• Hewlett-Packard ScanJet software
Beta testers advised us that some pre-release versions of the latest ScanJet software may make Now Menus menu icons disappear from the menubar, though the menus themselves continue to function. We have advised HP of this, and are working to help them solve the problem with the ScanJet software. If ScanJet users experience this problem, they should contact HP Technical Support for assistance.
•Poor Performance
If you are experiencing slow response from pull down menus or getting a line about a 1/2 inch above Now Tabs that won't redraw you can fix this by upping your cache size. Go into the system folder; control panels, Memory and boost your cache size by 500k.
Another way to help with general performance issues is to open the Now StartupManager. Go into preferences and switch from general to advanced. Turn on the option to reserve system heap space. The defaults are 32k or %0. Change them to 32k or %10.
•Now AutoType must load before Speech Recognition and the DateBook Pro Extension and after Power Dimmer. AutoType is incompatible with Eject Disk and Find Pro III. Links have been made in Now Startup Manager to address this for you.
Now Menus Notes
---------------
• Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Netscape Navigator, Ray Dream Studio and Aldus Freehand prevent Now Menus from customizing menu fonts and adding custom Hot Keys directly in menus. Now Menus doesn't conflict with these applications or others with nonstandard menu definitions-you just can't customize their menus.
• If Now Super Boomerang isn't running, the pop-up menus in the Now Menus control panel don't list recent folders, documents or applications-Now Menus relies on Now Super Boomerang for these lists. Use the "Other…" command instead to add the desired item. Super Boomerang is also required to access hierarchical menus beyond 5 levels deep.

•The new preference in Now Shortcuts to Invoke Shortcuts menu when clicking and waiting: will override any other pop-up lists like Now FolderMenus or clicking and holding on Control Strips.
Now Startup Manager Notes

•The AppleGuide support that we have built into Now Startup Manager requires you to have system 7.5 or better. For upgrading your system software please contact Apple Computer at 800-SOS-APPLE.
Now Tabs Notes
---------------
•Now Tabs is incompatible with TitlePop, DragAnyWindow and At Ease. Links have automatically been created for you in Now Startup Manager.
•The FinderScripting Extension must be loaded in order to drag folder icons to the Tab bar or to option-close folders without dismissing existing Tabs.
•Beta testers for AfterDark have reported when opening the After Dark control panel that Tabs will shift location or stack. We have notified the makers of After Dark and will look into this issue when After Dark ships.
Now WYSIWYG Menus Notes

• Adobe Type Reunion and Now WYSIWYG Menus are incompatible. Both products perform similar functions, but Now WYSIWYG Menus does offer more features and benefits. A link has automatically been created in Now Startup Manager to take care of this for you.
• Adobe Illustrator users: Adobe Illustrator has Type Reunion built in therfore, Now WYSIWYG Menus can't display enhanced font menus in Illustrator.
